HVAC Engineer
Position location: Auburn, IN
The Mechanical Engineering position will work closely with Sales, Engineering, and Project Management teams to assist with calculations, concepts, and designs for air pollution control systems and equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support Sales and Engineering/Project Management with thermal, mass air, heat transfer, furnace off gas thermal load, and thermal expansion calculations.
- Support project management with design calculations for equipment static and dynamic loads.
- Analyze system requirements for combustible dust applications (NFPA 68).
- Support project management with material handling and conveying systems.
- Support project management with pneumatic system designs.
- Review mechanical designs from the project teams and make appropriate recommendations for possible design improvements.
- Conduct engineering studies for customers as it relates to air pollution control systems.
- Effectively communicate in a team environment between sales and engineering/project management.
- Write technical papers or reports for engineering studies to support design recommendations for air pollution control systems.
- Represent the company in project meetings with the clients.
- Assist with maintaining current forms for calculating equipment loads, thermal, and other design calculators.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
- Knowledge or experience in industrial ventilation concepts or designs is strongly desired.
- Strong written and verbal communication and other relationship-building skills are required.
- Estimating experience will be considered a plus.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Able to manage several tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
- Ability to navigate Autodesk applications, including AutoCAD, Vault, Revit, and Inventor 3D modeling.
- Environmental dust hazard analysis (DHA) experience is a plus.
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 5 years (minimum) construction and/or plant engineering experience—a Professional Engineering license is a large benefit.
- Knowledge and ability to design and analyze structural components, including support towers, duct stiffening, stairs, platforms, exhaust stacks, etc., is considered a plus but not required.
- Knowledge of the following areas and standards is a plus: ASME, AISC, AWS, and NFPA
